Tuesday-Wednesday January 29-30. Sea days....
Shipboard Meanderings......
We have had 2 very calm days at sea heading south along the west coast of South America. We crossed the Equator and we are now in the Southern Hemisphere and Summer. So far the weather has been in the upper 70's with humidity to match, and the days are getting longer.
We have sailed 2546 nautical miles and it's been 1 week and 1 day since we left Ft. Lauderdale. We have completed 3 ports of call out of 47 On the Grand World Cruise and the rest are sea days. We have a lot of sea days.....
Sea Days.....A normal sea day for us-We usually get up around 7:30ish, have a light breakfast in the Lido buffet, decide if we are going to go to any lectures on the upcoming ports or just informative lectures on the places we will visit, attending computer classes, cooking demonstrations, or if not...its the gym for Bruce and walking the deck for me. By that time it is a light lunch and either more classes or lectures, but even better yet, relaxing and reading or catching up on e-mails in the afternoon. We have dinner at 5:15 and after dinner, either we stay in, go to the show or up to the crows nest to listen to the band or for a nightcap. The days really do go by fast, and there is plenty of activities to keep you busy, depending on your interests. We are getting into a routine and yes, there is a lot of food to choose from, but on long voyages we tend to eat less and we actually lose weight. But we are more active and the food, although tempting and tasty, gets a little boring after awhile. We still have 3 or 4 delicious courses at dinner, but they are very small portions which I like.
Sea days also include Gala Nights.....they don't call them formal anymore since tuxedos and gowns are a thing of the past. We have 15 on this cruise and although some of the older gentleman still carry and wear tuxes, most of the women make do with a smart cocktail dress, or a nice long black skirt with a few fancy tops and some jewelry for the glam factor. Men wear suits and ties. On the World cruise this is taken seriously and almost everyone abides by it. It's kind of fun to dress up once in awhile and we enjoy it.
We have had a relaxing last 2 days at sea and are looking forward to Salaverry (Trujillo) Peru tomorrow. We have a tour booked to go to some sort of ruins....looking forward to it.
