Day 2 Lima, Peru Saturday, February 2nd

Well, we decided to stay in today. We heard that a few of the crew members that went out last night were jumped, robbed and all of their ID was taken. Our room stewards were going out and we warned them last night to stay safe and stay in a group. Luckily they did not have any conflicts, but many did. And fortunately all were back on-board today.
I also did not feel well. Drat…..the cruise cough was going around and I, unfortunately caught it. I guess it’s fairly common that about 2 weeks into a cruise, “cruise cough” strikes. This time it started with the crew and was passed on to the passengers. I had a mild case, but some were down for the count. I nicknamed it “kennel cough” since that seemed a more accurate description. We are trying to stay healthy, but traveling in a nursing home at sea with 1300 passengers confined to small spaces, sometimes gets a bit challenging….and irritating. Since the weather is so nice, fresh air does wonders and sitting on a lounge chair reading in the open air and watching the sea go by is heaven.
We are also getting our stateroom window replaced today. When we got on board we noticed that our ocean view window was corroded, the seal was broken and leaking, and half the window was so clouded that we couldn’t see through it. This did not seem very safe, and besides, we paid a lot of money for a full ocean view…not half ocean view, and it was going to be our home until June 3rd.  So, with some polite constructive complaining and explaining to the front office, they notified maintenance, who then verified that yes, there was a potential problem, and the replacement needed to be done at the next overnight port. (Lima, Peru) It took them all day and now we have a magnificent full view of the ocean. The front desk even gave us a bottle of wine for being so patient through the process. Sometimes polite complaining gets you more than yelling at the crew. Which unfortunately happens much too often, and we have witnessed first hand.
So instead of being cooped up in a day room that they offered us to rest in since our room was under construction, we wandered around the almost empty ship, parked ourselves in a comfy lounge chair and proceeded to watch the port comings and goings, and reading.  Of course the pigeons were out in force today....still pooing all over the corn. Sail away was scheduled for 6 pm and our room was finished by 4. We had a nice dinner and early to bed since we turn our clocks ahead tonight. Arica Chile tomorrow, but I just might miss it.....My cough is getting worse. Double Drat.....
